The ones that are permanently mounted suck their air from the internal area, and thus work a lot more effectively. This portable unit of ours was dismantled and installed by myself before we left, and it now pulls air from inside our camper, and warms it, and sends it again out. All issues being equal, the air will get hotter in time and the buy alpha heater slows down to take care of the temperature. I have seen these models installed on the inside of various setups, with the exhaust going by means of a gap, and out of doors (for obvious reasons). I don’t like this, because the diesel tank is then inside, which smells, and might easily leak (our lid recently stopped screwing on tight), and whilst we used to transport it contained in the canopy, I made certain it didn’t have a lot gas inside because it was always a danger. I wasn’t keen on installing the diesel heater earlier than we left, but I’m very glad we did. It’s a lot nicer than having to lug a portable unit round, and its all the time ready to go whenever you want it.
